Hacking the Gap is a unique, personal and jam-packed reflection on Greg Voisen's 40-year journey that blends business, entrepreneurship and personal growth. While you might be able to consume its eight chapters in a couple of hours, allow yourself plenty of moments to highlight the standout nuggets from among the hundreds he offers — in addition to the collection of actionable measures listed as "Mindset Applications" at the end of each chapter. After interviewing hundreds of authors of personal growth books, Greg has written a Ph.D dissertation of an overview on the subject of harnessing one's potential. The book also triggered my imagination, conjuring up the printed version of an extended John Cage symphony built on a river of practical ideas and practices.
If you've ever struggled with the initiation of a big project, just heeding his chapter on incubation and the need to take a step back, might enable you to make more headway (with fewer mistakes) than you could have imagined without doing so. I found his selected quotations and original illustrations to be juicy additions to a rich tapestry of ideas, stories and perspectives. All in all, after spending time in each of its chapters, I learned a lot (like the four disciplines of execution developed by Clayton Christensen,) and came away with a much better sense of what I've missed doing in the past, and what I need to do in the future. I will dip into this well again.
